Why Data?
As we highlighted in the Digital Twins for Beginners article, Digital Twins have to be based on data, open data preferably, and then given more data as time goes on. Therefore its essential that we understand where this data comes from, its formats, and scale.
Dr David McKee, CEO/CTO Slingshot Simulations
It became more and more apparent in our Digital Twin series that, in order to build a Digital Twin, you need to collect data…and lots of it. The below picture shows just a few of the many approaches, benefits and challenges of data that was mentioned in our Digital Twin Series by our experts and the Slingshot team:
With that in mind, we have decided to to dig deeper into data with a dedicated “Dealing with Data” Series.
For the next few weeks, we are looking at Data from various angles:
- Where does data come from?
- Different types of data
- Sharing data / Open data
- Cyber Security
- Storing data
- Data formats
- The value of Data
Alongside contributions from our own development team, we will be hearing from data experts from around the world, including:
- Tom Link – Founder of Universal Mind and SpatialKey
- Dennis Dokter from Nexus, Leeds
- James Maddison – the Open Data Institute
- Adam Brown & Steve McArthur – Bellrock Technology
- Paul Connell – Open Data Institute Leeds
