On 31st October 2019 we grouped together for the first time with The University of Leeds and NPIF – Mercia Equity Finance to mark the beginning of our journey together to develop Slingshot’s technology.

With smiles all round, the group stood for photographs on the threshold of our new home: Nexus – The Innovation Hub that has emerged from the University of Leeds as a HQ for academic and business collaboration.

Our vision is to define a global standard for an Internet of Simulation so that it could be used by anyone, anywhere. It will allow people to use simulations to communicate and collaborate across industries and organisations

Dr David McKee, Slingshot CTO

We received backing from NPIF – Mercia Equity Finance, which is managed by Mercia and is part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and The University of Leeds.

Supported further by the Royal Academy of Engineering Accelerator Programme for high-tech innovations, Slingshot’s founding team members include Professor Jie Xu of the University of Leeds as director, cloud expert Dr Richard Kavanagh and full-stack simulation engineer Joe Leach. Joining the team is chairman Alan English, an experienced international start-up executive and Helen Gilder, a 20-year scale up veteran CFO.

Slingshot’s ability to democratise complex simulation will enable customers to capitalise on growing data volumes by delivering flexible systems design and rapid optimisation. The investment will fund further product development and help launch customer relationships

Will Schaffer, Mercia Investment Manager

With this financial and supportive investment, we can continue to develop our technology and make inroads into sectors that will benefit from a user-friendly real-time simulation service.

The Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund project is supported financially by the European Union using funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 and the European Investment Bank.
